Your introduction to Bourke and its surrounds can be based on any (or all!) of 4 themes:

story - hear a unique take on the development of Bourke from its past to present by Bourke Tourist Information officer, Stuart Johnson on the Mateship Country tour;
mystery - journey to the solitary outcrop of Mt Oxley, and wonder about the noises heard by the explorers as you look down from a magnificent view;
adventure - take a Mud Mup from the tourist office, a water-bottle, a friend, and drive off on your own self-paced exploration trek;
romance - steal quietly up the majestic Darling river on the paddle-boat Jandra, and contemplate the old days when tons of wool and other produce were ferried between the rail-head at Bourke, and the Murray-Darling junction at Wentworth.

Mount Oxley Tour

Take a tour to magical Mt Oxley. Enjoy Billy Tea & Camp Oven Scones with owners Bill & Denise Stalley, whilst learning the history of the mountain and experiencing magnificent views.

Jandra

The Paddleboat JANDRA recaptures the romance of the old river-steamers, with a 2-hour cruise along the quiet waters of the Darling River.

The Jandra leaves from the Kidman’s Camp Caravan Park during the season Easter to October Long weekend.

Mon - Sat: 1hr cruise leaves at 9am, 11am and 3pm. Cost $13.00 and $10.00 concession/child.
Sunday: 2hr cruise leaves at 2.30pm. Cost $20.00 and $10.00 concession/child.

Everyone can't believe how wonderful it is. So come to Bourke and enjoy a trip on the mighty Darling River.

'Mud Map' Self-Driving Tours

Discover for yourself just how accessible the real Australian Outback is from Bourke. Follow in the footsteps of Henry Lawson, or the explorers Sturt and Oxley.

The Tourist Information Centre has a series of self-drive 'Mud Maps'. Some mud-maps require permits and/or keys for passage through private property.
